Welcome to Morgan Woods
Dear Parents,
Last school year, our students did a wonderful job on the FCAT! ~Even though a ìBî was earned, we increased our total by 4 points and were 3 away from an ìAî. ~All groups made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) except English Language Learners (ELL) in the area of Reading. To~make AYP, 39 criteria must be met. We met 38 criteria designating that 97% of the criteria was attained. ~In order to make AYP, 100% of the criteria must be met. Our greatest increase was in the area of Writing. Students scoring 3.5 or higher increased from 69% to 92%, a gain of 23%. Way to go, Tigers and staff!! Once again we received the ìSchool 5 Star Awardî.
Our theme for the year is Tigers: On The Road To Success. We are going to strive to maintain our academic excellence, and we will continue to set high goals for academic achievement. ~That does not happen without hard work and communication between school and home. ~We ask that you become involved with your childís education. ~Research shows that parent involvement makes a positive difference in student achievement. ~We will be scheduling parent information evenings over the next few weeks to keep you informed about those ever-important benchmarks and to give you ìtipsî so you can work with your child at home. ~The PTA is planning some fun family events as well. ~Working together we will be able to provide your child with another well-rounded school year! ~
Student safety is our TOP priority. ~Working towards this goal, once again, promptly at 7:55 each morning, music will be played throughout the school. ~The music is an auditory signal to let children know they need to be in their seats prior to the completion of the music. ~It also signals parents that the gates are closed and all movement must be monitored through the main office. During the spring of 2009, a second measure was installed to help monitor your childís safety. From 7:55a.m. to 3:30p.m., please sign in through the main office to gain access to the school grounds.~ We are currently using an electronic program, SafeNet, to monitor all visitors on campus. To request access, your driverís license will be scanned and name verification will be compared with the school emergency cards.
Through the driverís license, the Florida Department of Law Enforcementís Data Bank will cross reference the information and immediately notify the school of any concerns. This small inconvenience is well worth your childís safety. Please Help Us to Help YOUR Child!
Below is the notice attached to the interior and exterior of each gate.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~STOP! ~~~~~~~~PARADA!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~
Student Safety Is Important!
All gates are locked at 7:55AM. ~~To help provide auditory assistance, music begins playing at that time and ends at 8:00. ~Beginning at 7:55 (when music begins), all visitors are to ENTER and EXIT through the main office.
Morgan Woodsí #1 priority is Student Safety! ~Situations change daily and none know the personal situation of others. ~Student Safety is the reason this change has occurred.
